Ashland, MA
The town of Ashland is located in Middlesex County, MA, part of the MetroWest region just outside Boston. Close to 17,000 people live throughout an area of roughly 12 square miles.
The area that came to be known as Ashland was settled in the early 18th century. Originally called “Unionville,” Ashland was incorporated in 1846. Beginning a century later following World War II, Ashland grew from a far-removed rural town into a primarily residential Boston suburb by the 1980s.
While Ashland has grown far beyond a simple rural area, it manages to retain the look and feel of a typical residential New England town. Such traditions as Ashland Day reinforce the feeling of a close-knit community. This event is typically held every year on the third Saturday in September, with festivities all day long, including numerous booths and carnival-like rides. Ashland Day serves primarily as an occasion for residents to enjoy exciting activities and delicious food.
